The drafts, largely undated, are accompanied by a signed autograph note by Judith Masefield explaining the material and project: "These are memories of an old man the coachman of Lord Macclesfield taken down during coversations, by myself or written by Mr. Barber in an exercise book [no longer present]. Full permission was originally obtained to publish..." Some pages are stamped: "Miss Masefield, Burcote, Abingdon, Berks." Headings include: "Chance Encounters: The Cowman," "The Fairy," "Episode of Two Hunting Dogs," "The Mermaid," "A Victorian Coachman," and "Victorian Memories."
